DAIM Leads to Professional Freedom
Hari Talari leveraged the skills he developed in Radford’s Data and Information Management (DAIM) Master’s program to demand an amazing work/life balance and financial freedom. Hari moved to Las Vegas to pursue his passion for rock climbing. He works at home from 6 am to 2 pm and his six-figure salary enables him to do almost anything he wants after work, including teaching a database class at New River Community College. Hari credits DAIM for his success and autonomy.
DAIM gave Hari the skills and knowledge needed to excel in his career. “The solid foundation of concepts and fundamental skills, like SQL, prepared me for my current job,” Hari explained. “DAIM also helped me understand the business side, teaching me the value of data and how to solve complex problems, enabling me to stand out as a valuable member of my team.”
Hari’s data engineering skills enabled him to negotiate a high salary and the flexibility to work remotely and set his own hours. “If you like data”, Hari says, “there’s plenty of money to be made.”
Hari enjoys the flexibility of working remotely from anywhere while traveling the world. In the future, Hari hopes to advance to a senior data engineer, but also feels prepared to transition to data analytics or database administration.
“A master’s program can be daunting at first”, Hari said before offering this advice, “If you like data, DAIM is a no-brainer. Once you are in the program, make friends who are passionate about what you’re doing and are willing to bounce ideas back and forth and work through problems with you. Asking friends, classmates, or professors for help is an important skill to develop for the workforce.” DAIM gave Hari the confidence to find not just any job – the job that is right for him.
