V.       Course Description:

This course introduces concepts and skills necessary for interprofessional leadership. Students are introduced to interprofessional communication and collaboration for improving patient health outcomes.  Through interprofessional group experiences, the student develops the foundation for organizational and systems leadership for quality care and patient safety. (lecture 1 credit, lab 1 credit)

VI.      Course Objectives:

Upon completion of this course the student will be able to

  1. Use reflective introspection to examine one's own knowledge, skills, and attitudes toward working within interprofessional teams.
  2. Incorporate effective communication techniques, including negotiation and conflict resolution, to produce positive professional working relationships.
  3. Demonstrate appropriate teambuilding and collaborative strategies when working with interprofessional teams.
  4. Contribute the profession’s unique perspective to the interprofessional team to advocate for high quality and safe patient care and optimize patient outcomes.
  5. Develop awareness and appreciation for the roles and contributions of the other healthcare professions.
