V.    Course Description:

This course will provide students with the opportunity to learn basic safety practices and infection control.  Basic patient care principles and concepts will be discussed with an emphasis on meeting selected hygiene and physical needs of the individual.  Students will be given the opportunity to practice skills in an open lab setting and demonstrate competency by completing the required skills through proficiency check offs.  This class is offered as a Lecture / Lab format.  (0.5 credit lecture/0.5 credit lab)

VI.    Course Objectives:

Upon completion of this course the student will be able to:

  1. Identify fundamental safety practice skills and infection control to be used in the healthcare profession. 
  2. Discuss basic patient assessment and documentation skills.
  3. Demonstrate basic patient care skills within the laboratory settings.    
  4. Demonstrate skills that promote patient mobility.
