ESL 201 - American Culture II

Prerequisites: ESL 101: American Culture I or placement exam.
Corequisites: ESL 202: Grammar II
ESL 203: Reading and Writing II
ESL 204: Speaking and Listening II

Students will explore the foundation of the United States’ history, government, and culture while applying their listening, speaking, reading, and writing English skills. This foundation will prepare students for a deeper study of American culture and values in American Culture III. Service learning is conducted at local destinations to better understand culture within these places and increase students’ sense of global citizenship. Field trips focused on American culture and history are frequently taken to give students practical exposure and experience. Students begin to be kept accountable for getting involved in campus events and clubs to gain an improved understanding of campus life and more thoroughly enjoy it.

Note(s): This class is part of the new Intensive English Program (IEP). The IEP is for students who do not meet the required English Proficiency during the admission process, or those wishing to learn English without intending to pursue a degree at Radford University.
