This course focuses upon the theoretical foundation of nursing practice and how it is applied in an ever-changing healthcare environment.

This course focuses on Nursing theory, philosophy, and models.


Detailed Description of Conduct of Course

The objectives and content of this RN-BSN course are derived from the School of Nursing's philosophy and conceptual framework, and facilitate achievement of the School's program objectives as well as the Essentials of Baccalaureate Education (AACN). Additionally, the major topics and skills covered in this course  are common to most Theorist professional texts. Current research and advancement in theory and clinical practice also determine content.

Upon successful completion of this course the student will be able to:
1) Discuss history and significance of Nursing Theory
2) Evaluate philosophy of nursing science and knowledge development
3) Discuss Nursing theorists of historical significance
4) Apply metaparadigm of Nursing
5) Analyze selected Nursing Philosophies, Theories and Models
6) Describe personal and ethical knowledge development
7) Apply the art and science of Nursing
8) Discuss the Radford University School of Nursing mission, philosophy and goals
9) Utilize effective communication skills in collaboration with other professionals, writen documents and oral presentations


Assessment Measures

Graded assessment measures may include but are not limited to online quizzes, tests, APA scholarly written paper, written assignments and discussion board participation.
