V. Course Description:

Examines the legal, political, and social issues impacting emergency services including employment, personnel, administration, operations, planning, code enforcement, and legislative and political processes.

VI. Goals and Objectives of the Course:

Discuss potential legal and political issues in fire and emergency services.
Describe legal lessons learned from recent cases, and identify best practices in the fire service and emergency services to avoid legal liability.
Analyze legal rules and political issues to manage risk.
Formulate an action plan based on political and legal conclusions and recommendations.
Conduct an analysis of a proposed or existing law using legal and legislative online resources.
Develop a written action plan to satisfy a code or policy citation.
