IV. Prerequisites: None

V. Course Description: 

Provides pre-professional experiential learning in long-term care facilities and related organizations.  The Nursing Home Administrator (NHA) preceptor ensures hours are obtained in the required domains of practice.  Projects are approved by Healthcare Administration faculty and supervised by the preceptor onsite.  Completion of the required hours will allow examination for board licensure as a NHA.

Note(s): Applied Learning designated course. This is a pass/fail course.

VI. Goals and Objectives of the Course:

Upon completion of the course, the student will:

  1. Differentiate post-acute care, services, and delivery systems for these services.
  2. Evaluate types of service providers, patients, and reimbursement systems. 
  3. Analyze the impact chronic illness is having on the long-term care systems.
  4. Examine cultural diversity of patients and employees.
  5. Critically evaluate the unique management issues surrounding long-term care service delivery.
