IV. Prerequisites: HADM 332.

V. Course Description: 

This course is designed to provide the basic healthcare accounting principles needed for students to read, analyze, understand, and use financial statements and budgets. In a changing healthcare economy it focuses on the complex financial issues facing healthcare organizations as they formulate strategic plans, while anticipating incoming revenue, budgeting for expenses, and collecting reimbursements from payers.

Note(s): Cultural or Behavioral Analysis designated course.

VI. Goals and Objectives of the Course:

Upon completion of the course, the student will:

  1. Demonstrate understanding of financial statements and budgets.
  2. Assess financial issues pertaining to strategic planning.
  3. Evaluate operating budgets to determine business sustainability.
  4. Analyze long-term financial needs to include debt management and cash flow.
  5. Differentiate reimbursement from payer sources.
