Student Support

Students can register for a Wintermester class using their PIN through the MyRU portal until December 21. Students may only register for one class during Wintermester. To drop a class, students need to send an email with their student ID number and the course name and number to the Registrar's office at

Need extra help with a class? Check out our NEW online tutoring service, NetTutor. Radford University students can access this through MyRU portal by clicking on the D2L icon and the"NetTutor" link in the "Support Services" widget.

Support Services during the Wintermester Term - Technology Support during the Wintermester term for both faculty and students will be available Monday thru Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., December 19, 2017 thru January 13, 2018, except holidays.

There are several new options for direct D2L support. A D2L technician can assist with real time chat or call directly at 1-877-325-7778.  They can still be reached by calling (540) 831-7500 (option 3) as well.

Online Orientation to D2L - To prepare you for your first course using Desire2Learn (D2L), Radford University's learning management system, we are providing an orientation.

The orientation covers the following and should take students an hour to complete:

  • Navigation
  • How to access D2L support
  • Use of the Dropbox
  • Use of Discussion Boards
  • How to check grades
  • How to use the Classlist
  • Information on My Media (the web cam and screen capturing software)

After completing the orientation, students will receive a certificate of completion.

Students can self-enroll for this training. If you are a student who would like to self-enroll in the Orientation training, follow the instruction and screen shots below:

1. Go to and login with your RU ID and password.



2. Once logged on to MyRU, click on the Desire2Learn button.



3. Click on the Self Registration tab along the top of the D2L home page.



4. Once there, click on the course named Student Orientation to D2L:



5. Next, choose Register.



6. This will take you to a page with your information. Click on Submit.



7. Finally, you will be taken to a confirmation screen. Just click Finish.



8. You will see the orientation added to your course listing on your D2L home page within a matter of minutes and you can begin!


Faculty Support

D2L and Classlist - When an instructor takes ownership of a classlist, Banner updates stop.

These Banner updates stop when an instructor:

  1. adds or removes a user;
  2. requests a course to be broken into multiple sections.
