Student Leaders

Quest Staff

All Quest student staff employees lead our incoming students and families throughout the campus and the orientation experience.  Quest staff ensure all incoming Highlanders have the best experience possible.  This is a paid summer opportunity that includes meals and on-campus housing.

The responsibilities include:

  1. Exhibiting professionalism with all interactions with incoming students and their families and Radford University staff, faculty, and fellow students.
    1. Create an appreciative and inclusive environment for all incoming students, family members, Quest staff, Radford University employees, and visitors.
  2. Serving as a principled ambassador of Radford University at all times.
    1. This includes on and off campus during work and non-working hours.
  3. Adapting an attitude of servant leadership when working with all incoming students and their families and Radford University staff, faculty, and fellow students.
  4. Helping plan, coordinate, and execute all aspects of Quest.
  5. Showcasing Radford University’s campus.
  6. Highlighting academic and social opportunities at Radford University.
  7. Greeting students and families at check-in and Opening Welcome.
  8. Leading students and families to all buildings and classrooms across campus adapting to day-to-day changes of campus layout.
  9. Stuffing individualized student and family specific packets for each Quest session.
    1. Read and accurately organize name tag, ID card, schedule, etc.
    2. Lift and carry 30 pounds independently across campus.
  10. Serving as Resident Assistants in the student and family overnight accommodations providing excellent customer service and safety measures as needed.
  11. Distributing and collecting residence hall keys for Quest students and families.
    1. Organize and keep accurate records.
  12. Driving golf carts across campus to pick up Quest participants and drop them off at their designated locations when appropriate.
    1. Note: Training will be required.
  13. Attending and participating in at least ten (10) days of classroom and out-of-class training prior to Quest.
  14. Approaching any other duties as assigned with an attitude of helpfulness and respect.

UNIV 100/150 Peer Instructor

 
All UNIV 100/150 Peer Instructors co-teach our UNIV 100 or UNIV 150 courses with a Faculty Instructor.  This is a paid fall and spring semester opportunity.

The responsibilities include:
  1. Collaborate with your faculty instructor regularly and throughout the semester to plan, coordinate, and lead all logistical and academic aspects of your class as a team.
  2. Attend all UNIV 100/150 class sessions.
  3. Assign, evaluate, and respond to your students’ coursework as needed.
  4. Participate in all training events and assignments.
  5. Act as a role model to incoming students.
  6. Be on time, present, consistent and professional for all class sessions and meetings.
  7. Check email daily and respond within 24 hours to emails (or texts) from your faculty instructor and the UNIV 100/150 Coordinator.
  8. Maintain appropriate online behavior in accordance with the Code of Student Conduct.  Student Connection Programs may view social media and other online services for appropriate content related to the position.  Any photos, posts, or other content must not include depictions of underage or excessive alcohol use or illegal drug use; inappropriate gestures; negative references to Radford University, the office, or UNIV 100/150, or bullying or harassment of any kind.
  9. Maintain only appropriate and professional relationships with students, faculty instructor, captain, and all others affiliated with UNIV 100/150.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned.
