Campus side of Reed-Curie Hall The Physics Section of the Department of Chemistry and Physics coordinates programs and coursework in Physics, Earth & Space Science, and the Physics part of the 3:2 Cooperative Engineering Agreement with Virginia Tech. We are committed to quality undergraduate education, with emphasis on hands-on education. Our students have ample opportunity to interact closely with faculty in their courses as well as on various study and research projects.

March, 2008: Radford University physics majors participate in polar sea ice research just offshore of Barrow, Alaska. These students are using a capacitively coupled electrical resistivity array to determine the thickness and structure of the sea ice under their feet. They are approximately 100 meters offshore, walking on ice ~2 meters thick above ~10 meters of seawater. the temperature on this day was approximately 35 degrees F below zero (wind chill ~-60F!)
