Hours of Operation
The Museum of the Earth Sciences is open from October through November and from January through April while Radford University is in
session. It is closed when Radford University is closed. From May through August, visits may be scheduled by apointment.
Normal hours of operation during the MES open season are:
- Monday 12 P.M. to 4 P.M.
- Tuesday 10 A.M. to 4 P.M.
- Wednesday 2 P.M to 4 P.M.
- Thursday 10 A.M. to 1 P.M. and 2 P.M to 4 P.M.
- Friday 10 A.M. to 2 P.M.
- 2nd & 4th SATURDAYS, 10 A.M. to NOON

An Appalachian Mystery: The latest in the case of the disappearing Mountain Lake
Presented by Dr. “Skip” Watts, Mr. “Paki” Stephenson, Department of Geology, Radford University
"Chester (Skip) Watts and George (Paki) Stephenson will present the latest in their ongoing studies into the mysterious disappearance of water from historic Mountain Lake in Giles County Virginia. Included will be video clips from their high-tech science tools, like RU’s underwater remotely operated vehicle (ROV) and aerial mapping techniques, along with glimpses into the underworld around the lake using such geophysical tools as seismic refraction and electrical resistivity."
