CMS Workflow for Homepage Activating

CMS Users:

We wanted to provide an update about the content management system (CMS) workflow process for activating homepages. In order to maintain consistency across the entire web presence, it was decided and communicated to administration this summer that Web Strategy and Interactive Media (WSIM) will review changes to all department homepages (college, academic, and administrative) through a process called a workflow that is built within the CMS. The workflow has been built and tested and will be put into effect Monday, Oct. 12, 2015.

What you need to know about how the workflow functions
When you are done making edits to your department homepage, the workflow is triggered when you click Activate. It is important that you click Activate because that sends an email to staff in Web Strategy and Interactive Media letting us know that your homepage is ready for review and activation to become live on the website.

NOTE: this only applies to homepages. You are still able to activate other pages within the website(s) you maintain.

This is an important new process within the CMS especially when changing the large banner image (also called a hero image) on your homepage. The new banner image was designed to be the focal point of homepages, to offer large, engaging imagery and effectively convey the university’s story with the public as well as attract new students to Radford University.

The new website is fully responsive, and as such, please be aware that hero images should scale to fit not only a desktop computer, but tablets and mobile phones; this is why we hope you will reach out to Web Strategy and Interactive Media to help ensure you are selecting the best imagery for your homepage as well using the appropriate components.

Thanks for your patience.
