Getting around just keeps getting easier, thanks to new Google Transit.
A trip planner to make use of Radford Transit and New River Valley connections can be found at ridesolutions.org as well as directly through Google Maps. The tool can also be accessed via a web browser as well as smartphones and tablets.
Radford Transit users who want to navigate the New River Valley have an exciting new resource.
Radford Transit has partnered with RIDE Solutions and the Pulaski Area Transit to provide up-to-date routing and schedule information via Google Maps. The online resource provides transit options for trips anywhere in the New River Valley.
With a smartphone or tablet, Radford University faculty, staff and students now have seamless trip planning abilities for their trips across the three New River Valley transit systems (Pulaski Area Transit, Radford Transit and Blacksburg Transit) in addition to the Smartway routes serving Blacksburg, Roanoke and Lynchburg.
The trip planner can be found at ridesolutions.org as well as directly through Google Maps. The tool can also be accessed via a web browser as well as smartphones and tablets.
"We're excited about the expansion of the Google Transit service throughout the region," said Kevin Byrd, executive director of the New River Valley Planning District Commission. "Not only does the tool support all the major transit services in our region, it allows you to plan a single trip across all of them. Now, you take a single bus trip from Radford, to Roanoke, to Lynchburg, all with the assistance of Google Maps."
To use the new transit planning tool, go to the RIDE Solutions home page at ridesolutions.org, Enter the basic trip information by either street address, cross streets or major landmarks along with the trip date and desired arrival or departure times – for same day service or many weeks in advance. The Trip Planner will then display several options from which to choose. Each option will include directions to and from the nearest bus stop, applicable route numbers including any transfer information and total travel times for each trip option.
“Trip planning via Google Maps will allow us provide an alternative to driving by overcoming the biggest fear about riding the bus: the fear of missing it,” said Jeremy Holmes, RIDE Solutions Program Director. “Through Google Maps, we can now tell you your exact bus number, arrival time, transfer and rate information, everything you need to know."
