Radford University is excited to offer exceptional high school wind players an opportunity to significantly expand and develop their musicianship through participation in the Seventh Annual Tri-State Honors Chamber Wind Festival: March 28-30, 2019 (Thursday 4pm - Saturday 1pm) .

This unique opportunity is limited to 50 of the finest high school musicians in the SWVA-SWV-NWNC region and will feature master classes, quintet coaching, performances by outstanding professional brass and woodwind ensembles, and a featured performance by Participating Students alongside RU Principal Wind Players.

Students will be selected based on recommendation and the instrumentation needs of Woodwind Quintets (fl-ob-cl-bssn-hn) Brass Quintets (2trp-hn-trb-tuba) and a Saxophone Quintet. Schools may also submit intact ensembles for inclusion in the festival.

We ask that you consult with students who will most benefit from this type of musical experience and carefully complete the online Student Application Form. The deadline for submission of applications and recommendations is February 25, 2019. We hope many of your students will apply for participation in the Tri-State Honors Chamber Wind Festival!

 

The Chamber Wind Participant package includes…

  • RESIDENT PACKAGE: Hotel lodging near the Radford University campus 
  • RESIDENT PACKAGE: Dinner for two nights (Thur & Fri) / Breakfast for two days (Fri & Sat) / Lunch for Friday  or COMMUTER PACKAGE: Dinner for two nights (Thur & Fri) /Lunch for Friday

  • Students will be continually chaperoned during their entire stay.

The cost per student is $185.00 – resident package / $125.00 - commuter package

Thursday – March 28

5:00 p.m.    Registration and Hotel Check-In – Best Western Radford (hotel lobby)

6:00 p.m.    Dinner – Dalton Hall at Radford University

7:30 p.m.     PERFORMANCE – Radford University Jazz Ensemble                                                                                                
Performance Hall at the Covington Center, Radford University

10:00 p.m.  Tri-State Honors Mixer (sponsored by RU Chapter of Phi Mu Alpha)

Friday – March 29

9:00 a.m.     Masterclass I – Detailed instruction conducted by the applied faculty of Radford University

10:30 a.m.    Quintet Rehearsals – Pre-assigned quintets will meet and begin rehearsal on music for the Tri-State Honors Performance. RU faculty and graduate students will coach these rehearsals.

12:00 p.m.     Dalton Hall

1:30 p.m.    Quintet Rehearsals – Pre-assigned quintets will meet and rehearse music for the Tri-State Honors Performance. RU faculty and graduate students will coach these rehearsals.

3:00 p.m.    Masterclass II – Detailed instruction conducted by the applied faculty of Radford University and Special Guests.

4:00 p.m.     Quintet Rehearsals – Pre-assigned quintets will meet and rehearse music for the Tri-State Honors Performance. RU faculty and graduate students will coach these rehearsals.

6:00 p.m.    Dinner – Dalton Hall

7:30 p.m.    PERFORMANCE – University Wind Ensemble and Faculty Chamber Winds

Saturday – March 30

9:00 a.m.     Quintet Rehearsals (runthroughs) – Pre-assigned quintets will meet and begin rehearsal on music for the Tri-State Honors Performance.RU faculty and graduate students will coach these rehearsals.
