National Day on Writing

Celebrate with the Writing Center!

October 20, 2021

Highlanders write everyday--in class, on our phones, for social media, and even on our bodies. RU encompasses a diverse community of writers with unique voices and something to say. Let's celebrate by being creative, spending time with each other, and winning some prizes!

Every year on October 20, the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) promotes events that celebrate writing. Join the celebration by attending in-person events in the Writing Center or participating in a virtual competition!

In-Person Events

When you participate in an in-person event you'll enter into our raffle. We have a variety of prizes including gift cards to Radford Coffee Company and Texas Roadhouse, CHBS blankets, thermoses, English Department t-shirts, and more! We're located in HH 4800, right above the Starbucks.

The Writing Center will have ongoing writing activities from 11am - 1pm. Activities will include:

  • collaborative story writing (all you'll need to do is add one line!)
  • found poetry
  • arts and crafts
  • games

Seasonal accessories will earn you an extra raffle ticket!
