Black Studies Center

The Black Studies Center supports the study of Black histories, cultures and experiences at Radford University. The Center creates opportunities for student research, community engagement and public programming.

We welcome students, faculty and community partners interested in strengthening Black Studies at Radford and throughout the region.

Get Involved with the Black Studies Center

Students can become involved through research, internships, independent studies, events and community projects. Current projects examine Radford University’s institutional history, Black organizations throughout Appalachia and the demographic, economic and health conditions of Black Appalachian communities.

The Center also offers students a welcoming place to study, check out books, have coffee or connect with others. Student involvement and programming is coordinated by Director Jocelyn Brown, Ph.D.
