The African American Studies minor in the Department of Sociology provides students with an interdisciplinary understanding of the histories, cultures, hand experiences of African-descended people. Courses examine how race connects with health, politics, gender, class, family, place, literature and popular culture. Core courses are being developed including Reproductive Justice and Black Men and Masculinity.
While housed in sociology, the 18 credit minor complements programs across the university, including psychology, criminal justice, social work, education, health sciences, history, political science, communication and English.
