The Black Studies Center is affiliated with African American Studies and the Department
of Sociology. The Center supports interdisciplinary teaching, student research and
community-engaged work related to Black life, history and culture.
Our work is especially attentive to Black communities in Appalachia while connecting
their experiences to the United States, Africa and the broader African diaspora. We
welcome partnerships with students, faculty, schools, museums, historic sites and
community organizations.
