Faculty and Staff Workshop Feedback

Planning for Radford University’s new Academic Health Sciences Building in Roanoke has focused on creating a collaborative, student-centered environment through extensive faculty and staff engagement. Feedback highlighted priorities including flexible learning spaces, advanced technology, shared simulation and interprofessional education areas, quiet study and wellness spaces and adaptable work environments that support collaboration, accessibility and innovation.

Workshop #1

Staff & Faculty Information Session 1 - April 14, 2026 71 attendees, 40 in-person 31 online; Project & timeline introduction, Introduction to program categories, Virtual suggestion box & Vision input What does successful interprofessional collaboration mean to you? Focus on relationship building & communication - A collaborative approach & mindset Working with a shared purpose; Shared teaching space, collaborative work space - Breaking down silos; Academic integration - Addressing wicked problems and preparing graduates for real life integration What do you need in an individual workspace to be successful? Windows, Flexible lighting, Acoustic privacy; Offices that are inviting with room to meet with 2-3 others; Balance confidentiality with a team atmosphere What type of student & public spaces do you need to support gathering, studying, & personal well-being? Large, multipurpose event and meeting space; Quiet study space & lounge space; Student union; Sensory friendly spaces; Dining options, Fitness, Meditation space, Outdoor/garden space What type of classrooms do you need to educate successfully? Flexible & adaptable space & furniture; Technology that equitably supports interactive in-person & online engagement; Accessible, Adjustable lighting, Natural light

Staff & Faculty Information Session 2 - May 6, 2026 46 attendees, 35 in person, 11 virtual Report out of session 1; Prioritization exercise on impactful actions for faculty, staff and student experience; “One word” visioning feedback; FAQ question box One word to describe the future Academic Health Sciences building Word cloud including the terms anchor point, game changer, exciting potential, innovative, standard, advancement, bridge, grand, collaborative, critical, welcoming, home, open and bright, a leap, premier, future, transformational, evolving, in demand, Swiss army knife Top 3 MOST impactful actions… To improve staff & faculty experience - Increased technology capabilities in classrooms, simulation, and skills labs; Individual workspace co-located with colleagues; Auditorium/large event space To improve student experience Quiet student study spaces; Student lounges (casual, comfy environments); Dining & café space For successful IPE; Interprofessional programming and events; Shared simulation space; Academic integration
