Heck no!
Our Cadets enjoy a relatively normal campus life. We meet 3 times a week in the morning for physical fitness training (PT), and on Tuesdays for a two hour lab as a whole group. During PT, Cadets wear their issued PT uniform. Otherwise Cadets are only otherwise "on duty" or in uniform during their weekly classes. Freshmen meet once a week for 1 1/4 hours. Sophomores meet twice a week for 1 1/4 hours. Juniors and seniors meet three times a week for a 50 minute class on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. When Cadets aren't at PT, lab, or class, they dress in civilian clothes, and live like any other college student. Cadets in leadership positions in the program spend a little more time preparing for lab, or planning with our Cadre, but most of their time is their own.
Unfortunately not. Nearly all of our Cadets join the program without a ROTC Scholarship. They can compete for campus based scholarships that can pay tuition and fees OR room and board ($6,000 per semester) though. Please see our Scholarship section for more information.
I would recommend that you do your best to get into shape before you start ROTC though. We do physical training (PT) Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings from 6-7 a.m. We run several times a week, do pushups, planks, calisthenics and lift weights. PT helps reduce stress, makes you more resilient and can be fun. Does getting into shape hurt a little? Yes. Do you feel much better when you are in shape? Yes.
