V. Course Description: 

Provides the cognitive, psychomotor, and affective skillset necessary to prepare the student to function independently as an Emergency Medical Technician and is based on the latest release of the National EMS Education Standards. This course partially fulfills the requirements to sit for the National Registry Emergency Medical Technician Examination.

VI. Goals and Objectives of the Course:

  1. Recognize the need to perform immediate life-saving interventions to manage a patient’s airway, breathing, and circulation.
  2. Perform a comprehensive patient assessment.
  3. Administer appropriate emergency care based on assessment findings.
  4. Assess and manage patients of all ages with a variety of complaints and medical conditions.
  5. Lift, move, position, or otherwise handle patients to minimize patient discomfort and prevent further injury.
  6. Apply principles of anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, life-span development, and therapeutic communications to the assessment and management of patients.
