Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner speciality concentration of the DNP program prepares graduates with the knowledge and skills to synthesize and apply theories, clinical reasoning, and research in the treatment of individuals, families, and groups across the lifespan. Courses focus on advanced psychiatric mental health nursing practice for addressing behavioral health issues, as well as acute and chronic mental illness. Evidence-based methods include psychopharmacological, psychotherapeutic, and psychoeducational interventions with emphasis on mental health promotion and disease prevention strategies. This specialty concentration meets the criteria established by the American Nurse Credentialing Center (ANCC). Upon successful completion of the approved courses, graduates are eligible to take the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) certification examination offered by the ANCC.
