Suicide Awareness, Prevention, Intervention, and Postvention Workshop for Educators
Counselor Education professor Alan Forrest and an alumni of the program, Kate Buchanan, currently a School Counselor at Blacksburg High School, presented a one-day Suicide Awareness, Prevention, Intervention, and Postvention Workshop for Educators. The workshop was conducted at the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center in Abingdon, Virginia. Over 75 participants attended and were provided with basic information about suicide as well as strategies to develop practical skills for prevention, intervention and postvention. The interactive workshop was open to any educator (Administrators, Principals, Teachers and School Counselors) who wanted to learn more about intervening across the suicide spectrum. School personnel from over ten counties and cities of Southwest Virginia participated in the training.
