Students in the Art Department at Radford University explore a variety of artistic media and disciplines. Undergraduate students may pursue a particular area of interest within the following concentrations: studio artgraphic designart education, or art history and museum studies. Graduate students pursue advanced technical and conceptual studies in studio art. Course descriptions and information about various degree options are provided in the undergraduate and graduate catalogs.

Art faculty are professionally active, exhibiting their work in galleries and museums, presenting papers at academic conferences, and writing articles and books. Digital classrooms and photography labs are found down the hall from traditional and computer studios. Graduating students exhibit their work in the Radford University Art Museum, the home of changing exhibitions of photography, painting, and other art created by local and nationally known artists.

Radford University is an accredited institutional associate member of the National Association of Schools of Dance. The Department of Dance provides a comprehensive undergraduate dance education that fosters an environment committed to dance as an autonomous and major art form and realizes the many significant roles dance plays in world cultures. 

Students can prepare for a  career or continued study in dance-related areas with the Bachelor of Arts Degree in Dance.  You can also prepare for a career as a performer or choreographer with the Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Dance. The Bachelor of Science Degree in Dance Education (Entrepreneurship Emphasis) will prepare students for Prepare for your career as a dance educator, administrator, and entrepreneur.

The Department of Design is a dynamic department where design reaches across multiple disciplines.  The Department of Design offers two undergraduate majors; Bachelor of Science in Design and Bachelor of Fine Arts in Design. We are the only university within the Commonwealth of Virginia to offer these Design degrees.

We offer a variety of concentrations within our design department: Fashion DesignInterior Design (accredited by CIDA), Merchandising (which encompasses both Interior Merchandising & Fashion Merchandising), and Design Management.  Our students participate in stimulating summer internship experiences, and travel to exciting fashion and design centers in Atlanta, New York, High Point, Charlotte and Chicago.

The Radford University Department of Music provides innovative, creative instruction and experiences in music for students from diverse backgrounds, enhanced by multicultural/global perspectives and the benefits of new technology, preparing professional, entrepreneurial, and scholarly musicians who function both independently and in community with others.

The undergraduate professional program in the Department of Music offers opportunities for students to concentrate in Music Educationmusic therapy, and music business, and for advanced professional graduate study. The undergraduate liberal arts program offers opportunities for the study of music irrespective of specific career aspirations, for emphases which may meet the needs of individual students, and for preparation to study music at the graduate level.

Students who study theatre become quick thinkers, versatile problem solvers and excellent communicators. Whether you seek a life’s work, a sense of community, or a diversion, the Department of Theatre and Cinema serves as your gateway to new skills, experiences and pathways. The aim of our curriculum is to deeply engage students in course material, foster interaction between faculty and students, and connect classroom concepts to practical application.

The Department of Theatre and Cinema offers a Bachelor of ArtsBachelor of Science, a Minor in Theatre and the interdisciplinary Minor in Cinematic Arts. Both Majors and Minors may choose to emphasize performance (acting/directing) or design/technical theatre.
