Dr. Aysha Bodenhamer was the inaugural recipient of the Dr. Carole Seyfrit Award for Excellence in Research. The award was named in honor of and endowed by the former Department of Sociology Chairperson.

Sam Montana was one of three new inductees into the International Sociology Honor Society, Alpha Kappa Delta. Also inducted into AKD were Callie Adkins and Eileen Lagos.

Eileen Lagos was named Outstanding Scholar-Citizen--for the second year in a row.

Sociology minor Kylie Knudsen received an award for Outstanding Academic Performance in the Minor.

Awarded for Outstanding Research in Service to the Community were Taylor Forrest, Eileen Lagos, Sanou Diallo, Alana Fanning, and Khalin Reid. Enrolled in Dr. Wagner's SOCY 493 Practicum course, the group served in the ongoing Roots with Wings oral history project in Floyd County.
