Angela Davis


Dr. Angela Davis appeared at Radford University's Bondurant Auditorium Wednesday, January 20 as Keynote Speaker for the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Program.


Dr. Davis is Distinguished Professor Emerita of History of Consciousness at University of California Santa Cruz. She is an activist and scholar whose work confronts social problems associated with incarceration and the generalized criminalization of communities affected by poverty and racial discrimination.


Sociology major Michael Facey, with Raven Thornton, provided the welcome to the two-hour program titled, "Toward Progress: Transformation and Advocacy for Our Community."


Skye Heasley (RU Sociology, 2015) provided the introduction with a short video of photographs of, and quotes by, Davis.
