Alexis Goodwin, a senior media studies major, has been named the media studies dean’s scholar for this academic year and will be honored at a banquet on Saturday, April 8.

The nomination caught Goodwin by surprise, “I actually didn't know about the award until I was emailed notification of my award by the director of the School of Communication.”

“I am very honored to have been named the Media Studies Dean’s Scholar,” Goodwin said.

As stated on the College of Humanities and Behavioral Science website, “Every year, a single Dean’s Scholar is chosen from each CHBS program that best represents high achievement in his or her discipline. Faculty members nominate students based not only on academic success, but also their commitment to the university community and service to their field.”

Goodwin has been very involved with her studies during her time at Radford University. She has made the Dean’s List every semester that she has attended Radford University.

Her academic prowess has also earned Goodwin induction into the National Society of Collegiate Scholars and Lambda Pi Eta -- the National Communication Association’s official honor society.

With an overall GPA of 3.88 she is on track to graduate Summa Cum Laude.

Academics is not all that defines Goodwin. She has also served in various capacities student groups. These include ROC-TV, the student-run campus television, where she had a stint at shooting video and reporting. She also interned as the Social Media Manager for the Highlander Student Media.

Goodwin is also a member of the Radford University Swim Club. Outside Radford University, she has made time to work as a lifeguard at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center.

With only a few more weeks of school left, Goodwin looks forward to graduating and beginning her professional career.

“After graduating I will be interning with the Crutchfield Corporation as a Social Media Content Developer and plan to pursue a career in social media and content marketing.”
