V.    Course Description:     

This course develops the knowledge base needed to provide patient-centered care to include acute intervention, ambulatory, and home care for selected health problems. Students apply the nursing process in increasingly complex situations. Concepts of illness, disease  management and pharmacology are integrated.
       
VI.    Course Objectives:  

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to

  1. Analyze current knowledge from nursing science, humanities, and social and natural sciences in developing  the role of the nurse as provider of care throughout the lifespan. (PO 1,4)
  2. Examine selected health problems to include pathophysiology, growth and development, signs and symptoms, treatment, pharmacology, complications, and prognosis. (PO 1,2,4)
  3. Demonstrate an understanding of the relationship of genetics and genomics to the care and treatment of adults. (PO 1,4)
  4. Provide safe and competent care for individuals with selected conditions of increasing complexity. (PO 1,4)   
  5. Integrate evidence-based practice in the planning of patient-centered care.  (PO 1,2)
  6. Demonstrate ethical, caring, and culturally competent behaviors in the delivery of patient-centered care. (PO 1)
  7. Develop plans of care that incorporate an interprofessional approach. (PO 6)
