V.    Course Description:    

Students continue to develop the knowledge base needed to provide patient-centered care. Concepts of illness and disease management, and pharmacology are integrated. Students apply the nursing process to clients with selected alterations in adaptive and regulatory mechanisms.

VI.    Course Objectives:

Upon completion of this course, the student will

  1. Integrate current knowledge from nursing science, humanities, genetics and genomics, and social and natural sciences in developing the role of the nurse as provider of care for individuals, families and communities throughout the lifespan. (PO 1,4)
  2. Discuss selected health problems to include pathophysiology, growth and development, signs and symptoms, treatment, pharmacology, complications, and prognosis. (PO 1,2,4)
  3. Identify the relationship of genetics and genomics to the care and treatment of adults. (PO 1,4)
  4. Examine the nursing role in providing safe and quality care for individuals with basic alterations in adaptive and regulatory mechanisms. (PO 1,4)
  5. Examine evidence-based practice for use in planning care. (PO 1)
  6. Develop ethical, caring, and culturally competent behaviors in the delivery of patient-centered care. (PO 1)
  7. Explain the role of the nurse as a member of the interprofessional team. (PO 3,6)
