ITEC 546: Advanced Cybersecurity for Edcuators

Advanced concepts in cybersecurity for students with prior IT knowledge in areas of networking and discrete math.


Detailed Description of Course

1) Teaching cybersecurity K12 and at 2Y colleges
2) Goals of cybersecurity
3) Active defense
4) Authentication, authorization and accountability
5) Applied cryptography (modes of operation, PKI): Using GPGs, PKI and VPNs
6) Intrusion response and handling
7) Risk Management
8) Linux, Windows security
9) Pen testing


Detailed Description of Conduct of Course

The course will include weekly lectures (can be online), weekly hands on projects and optionally tests.


Goals and Objectives of this Course

Graduates of this course will be able to:

1) Perform security analysis of computing infrastructure
2) Conduct risk assessment?
3) Harden linux/windows based OSes
4) develop lesson plans and/or cirriculum for appropriate grades in K12 or in 2Y colleges
5) Setup virtual labs to condcut cybersecurity hands on exercises


Assessment Measures

Project including hands on exercises and reports will be the primary form of assessment. Instructors can optionally conduct exams.
