RCPT 469: Pre-Internship Seminar

Prerequisites: Instructor or Departmental Approval, RCPT 413 (pre- or co-requisite), 2.5 overall GPA and 2.5 major GPA

A self-directed study to prepare the student for an internship experience in recreation, parks, and tourism. 

 

Detailed Description of Course Content

This course will prepare students to secure a professional internship in RCPT. It includes completing and processing all paperwork and contracts for the selected agency. This includes securing approval for the agency if necessary, agency contact information, student internship agreement, Radford University internship agreement, 100-hours of documented field experience, and internship goals. Students will also be responsible for securing CPR/First Aid certification (or equivalent) that will extend throughout the course of the internship.



Detailed Description of Conduct of Course

This course is a self-directed exploration of potential internship opportunities, guided by the department’s internship coordinator. The student will complete individualized research specific to his/her stated goals for the internship experience. Timely processing of all internship documents, including the official contract with an internship site, is required.
 

Goals and Objectives of the Course

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will demonstrate:

1. The ability to identify internship and career opportunities within their chosen concentration.
2. Understanding of internship requirements.

3. Competency in producing clear objectives and goals for the internship experience.
4. Competency in completing all required documentation for internship placement. 



Assessment Measures

This is a pass/fail course. All requirements must be met in order to pass the course and register for RCPT 470 Internship. This includes securing approval for the agency if necessary, agency contact information, student internship agreement, Radford University internship agreement, 100-hours of documented field experience, internship goals, and CPR/First Aid certification (or equivalent).
