Prerequisite: ESHE 225, BIOL 310, and minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA

Clinical experiences designed to provide students with exposure to an allied healthcare setting distinct from ESHE 225. This course requires the completion of 40 hours of clinical experience.

2. Detailed Description of Course

This course follows ESHE 225 (Allied Health Sciences Practicum I). This practicum will provide students with an appreciation for the duties and responsibilities of an allied health professional but in a separate and unique setting from that of ESHE 225. Professional schools require varied observation experiences for admission and this course will ensure students are exposed to alternative practice settings. Students will be required to document observation experiences and reflect on their relevance to professional association standards.

3. Detailed Description of Conduct of Course

Students will participate in allied health activities (e.g., occupational therapy, physical therapy) for 40 hours during the semester or winter. A therapist or related practitioner will directly supervise these experiences. Students will communicate with classmates and the course instructor weekly to discuss various issues related to allied health care professional duties and responsibilities.

4. Goals and Objectives of the Course

    1) Explain the duties and responsibilities of an allied healthcare professional.
    2) Identify the various standards of professional allied health associations and how
       they relate to practice.
    3) Explain how allied health professionals communicate in various settings, including
       written communication methods.
    4) Describe various therapeutic and rehabilitation modalities used in allied healthcare
       settings.
