Reading List

Below is a list of plays students are likely to encounter during their theatre studies at Radford University. It contains those most frequently incorporated into various classes across the department's curriculum. Though by no means exhaustive, it does include a wide range of playwrights, genres, historical time periods and cultural influences. It is provided here as a springboard for the necessary habit of reading plays. Serious theatre students should read at least one play every couple of weeks. As a part of this practice it is helpful to document the reading through the use of a journal or index card file. This record-keeping can provide a very useful resource for the student's future studies and work. A solid knowledge of the canon of dramatic literature is an invaluable foundation for the development of any theatre artist.
