Brief Description: This course offers a comprehensive exploration of the African American experience through a rigorous historical inquiry. It surveys cultural representations and artistic expressions employing multiple interdisciplinary approaches. Grounded in a unique black perspective, it critically analyzes key conceptual frameworks across various academic disciplines, encompassing, but not limited to, education, history, and sociology.

Detailed Description of Content of Course
Students will explore diverse concepts and topics, examining pivotal events through a humanistic lens that captures the constructions of race, slavery, and social movements.
Detailed Description of Conduct of Course
Through humanistic and artistic expressions students will read original texts, multimedia materials, and discussion of those resources, students will be introduced to the interdisciplinary field of African American Studies which draws on, disciplines such as history, sociology, art, literature, and music.

Assessment Measures
Students will complete critical readings and writing assignments via a combination of reflection essays, mid-term and final quizzes, and a capstone essay.
