She is staff pianist at Radford University, co-founder of the Alma Ensemble, and has appeared with the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra. She is an advocate for music by women through performance and education as well. Admission is free and everyone is welcome.

De-stress, unwind, and share a smile with therapy animals!  The Military Resource Center and Tartan Tails bring comfort, connection, and care to Radford’s military-affiliated and campus community.

Starroot (aka Ruth Neumann) was born in Germany and immigrated to the US in 1986. A longtime resident of Floyd County, she has become known as one of the region’s leading self-taught “Visionary” or “Outsider” artists. Her paintings are now in the permanent collections of Baltimore’s American Visionary Art Museum and elsewhere, including Radford University. Steeped in Native American spiritual traditions, she creates boldly colorful and exuberant acrylic paintings abounding with visual references to ancient Maya and contemporary Wixárika imagery—along with a plethora of counter-culture celebrations of nature, the cosmos, music, synesthesia, and extra-terrestrial encounters.

The nursery is once again silent and Neverland is far away, the rest of the world is moving on, but Wendy Darling still sits waiting for her first true love to come back as he promised. Her mother and even the Lost Boys are worried about her. But sometimes it is easier to hide than face life in all its joy and scary parts. Told with lyricism and humanity, this highly relatable story wrestles with the question of how to “fly” with a broken heart.

There will be art, video, trivia, and of course, live Halloween themed music from Radford University’s Commercial Music Ensemble. It’s always a fun time and we’ll have some treats for you tricksters. Join us on Thursday, November 5 for an evening with a truly versatile artist, pianist David Berry. Berry’s performances as a concert pianist have been featured in venues such as Carnegie Hall, The Kimmel Center, Merkin Hall, and in live broadcasts of WQXR radio (New York). Berry was the grand prize winner of the Bradshaw and Buono International Piano Competition and a prize winner of the Thousand Islands International Piano Competition.

A $300 Purchase Award will be presented to the Best in Show winner and their piece will be added to McConnell Library’s permanent student art collection.
