HeartCode BLS Course

HeartCode BLS is an interactive self-directed eLearning program which completes the requirements for the American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers course. Learners complete a computer-based cognitive portion consisting of lessons teaching the BLS algorithm; realistic adult and infant patient cases that test knowledge of the correct sequence of patient care activities and give the student a detailed debriefing of performance; and a multiple choice exam. This portion of the course is completed on-line at your home/office computer.

The learner must then demonstrate CPR skills by using a voice-assisted manikin system that connects to the HeartCode program. This portion of the course is completed at the Radford University Clinical Simulation Center.

The manikin system is located at the RU Clinical Simulation Center, main campus site. Please contact the center at BLS@radford.edu, (540-831-7175) for information about the program and/or scheduling. HeartCode BLS can be used for initial or renewal certification.

Email the center at BLS@radford.edu to sign up for the training
Carefully read and follow all the instructions sent to you in the email to complete Part 1 (Cognitive) of the BLS training
Once finished Part 1 please contact Lisa Young to schedule Part 2 (Hands-on) of the BLS training.
On the day of Part 2 make sure to arrive at least 10 minutes prior to your scheduled time to Cook Hall 327 to receive final instructions before training.
Upon successful completion of the training you will receive your BLS card and Certificate immediately.

Note: You can log out and log back in at anytime and resume from the previous point.

Important: You must complete the Skills Test (Part 2) within 60 days of passing Part 1.
