2025-2026 Objectives

Introduction

The following committee objectives provide a foundation for the Faculty Senate’s work in 2026-2027. Each committee should attempt to accomplish all objectives. These objectives are not intended to be all-inclusive—any committee member, other Senators, and the Faculty Senate Executive Council (FSEC) may refer other issues to the committee for consideration and action. Feel free to form subcommittees as needed to address specific objectives more expeditiously. Additional items will be referred to committees as new recommendations are made by members of our faculty.
All committees should record minutes of their meetings. Minutes and other committee documents (e.g., reports) should be forwarded to the Senate secretary (pnhendrix@radford.edu) for posting by the Faculty Senate.

Campus Environment Committee Charges for 2026-2027

  1. Review, analyze, and present (to Faculty Senate and the campus community) the Faculty Morale Survey
  2. Review and comment on university policies as assigned by FSEC
  3. Share concerns with Parking Services
  4. Continue discussions with Vice President of Enrollment Management and Strategic Communication (e.g., social media policy)
  5. Review and propose updates to Faculty Senate bylaws language for responsibilities for Campus Environment Committee (https://www.radford.edu/faculty-senate/important-documents/bylaws.html)
  6. Liaise with Student Government Association (Luke is the liaison)
  7. Follow-up with the bookstore (e.g., new vendor)
  8. Follow-up on campus building and renovation projects, including plans for the building in Roanoke and the McConnell Library
  9. What data are being collected by cameras on campus and how is it being used?
  10. Implement and Execute 2027 Faculty Moral Survey

Curriculum Committee Charges for 2026-2027

  1. Review standing charges from the Faculty Senate Bylaws
  2. Review and comment on curricular proposals as needed
  3. Review and comment on issues related to the new General Education implementation
  4. Identify outstanding issues related to General Education transition
  5. Review the curricular aspects of Academic Governance review, including curricular approval pathways and faculty oversight of courses housed outside departments, and make recommendations to the Faculty Senate Governance Committee.
  6. Review and comment on UPC policies assigned by FSEC
  7. Consider accessibility issues and concerns related to curriculum
  8. Consider a proposal for the University Curriculum Committee (FSCC plus Director of Undergraduate Curriculum) 

Faculty Issues Committee Charges for 2026-2027

  1. Examining faculty compensation (stipends, course releases, etc.) for key roles, such as program coordinators, chairs, and associate chairs)
  2. Evaluation of teaching, such as use of SEF and peer evaluations, potentially liaising with the university committee that works on SEF.
  3. Review and comment on UPC policies as assigned by FSEC
  4. Review and propose updates to Faculty Senate bylaws language for responsibilities for Faculty Issues Committee (https://www.radford.edu/faculty-senate/important-documents/bylaws.html)
  5. Gather faculty concerns regarding AI and liaise with the AI working group.
  6. Consider faculty concerns related to Gen Ed implementation.
  7. Investigate issues of academic freedom at the university

Governance Committee Charges for 2026-2027

  1. Review and propose updates to Faculty Senate bylaws language for responsibilities for Governance committee
  2. Review and comment on University Policies Committee policies as assigned by Faculty Senate Executive Council
  3. Review T&R Handbook for updates and potential revisions
  4. Administer the deans’ evaluations in the spring
  5. Review Faculty Senate constitution for updates and potential revisions
  6. Review Academic Governance document for updates and potential revisions

Resource Allocation Committee Charges for 2026-2027

  1. Review and propose updates to Faculty Senate bylaws language for responsibilities for Resource Allocation Committee  (https://www.radford.edu/faculty-senate/important-documents/bylaws.html)  
  2. Review and comment on UPC policies as assigned by FSEC
  3. Continue to meet with Vice President of Finance and Administration (VPFA) and to monitor Board of Visitors (BoV) to understand budget decisions and trade-offs.  
  4. Investigate and advocate for funding for faculty travel, research and Faculty Professional Development Leave (FPDL).   
  5. Follow up on travel allocation changes with Provost’s Office for funding amounts and support, based on survey results.   
  6. Advocate for more information on value gained from initiatives not directly related to the mission of the university  
  7. Continue to work with University Planning and Budget Advisory Committee (UPBAC) on allocation of resources, and advocate for clear, transparent communication between UPBAC and RAC.   
  8. Investigate resource allocations that may impact how classrooms are assigned (and are there ways to improve these processes, with Campus Environment’s input).
  9. Investigate resource allocations for faculty-led service and co-curricular programs and initiatives (e.g. financial, administrative support)
  10. Undertake other tasks as deemed appropriate by Faculty Senate Executive Committee (FSEC).
