Annual Physical Therapy Legislative Day
Thursday, January 15, 2015, was the Annual Physical Therapy Legislative Day at the General Assembly in Richmond. A bill was submitted to change the restrictions to Direct Access to Physical Therapy Services. See http://www.vpta.org/default.asp?contentID=184 for more information.
Tyler Spahr, SPT, attended this year with his Clinical Instructor assigned for Spring 2015, Wil Kolb, PT, DPT, OCS, FAAOMPT, who works at Carilion Rehabilitation within Carilion New River Valley Medical Center in Christiansburg, VA.
Tyler noted, “Lobby Day in Richmond was an exhilarating experience. Meeting face to face with state legislators gave me the opportunity to discuss the importance of direct access and improving the value of physical therapy services in Virginia”.
Wil added, “Thank-you Tyler Spahr for representing the RU DPT program Thursday 1/15 at VPTA lobby day in Richmond. It was a great energizing day to meet with our state senators and representatives to ask for their support of Direct Access changes in VA (HB 1457 and SB 776) that make it easier for citizens of VA to access PT services. By the end of the day SDPT Tyler Spahr was able to articulate our main points and was comfortable talking about direct access legislation. We also were able to sit in on the VPTA BOD meeting to understand how our professional organization serves all PT and PTA's.”
