 FRESHMEN

  • How are classes going your first/second semester at RU?
  • If in first semester, have you checked your Midterm Grades?
  • Are you still interested in your current major?
  • Have you done any job shadowing or researching of the career(s) your major leads to?
  • Have you looked at your web audit yet?
  • Did you have any transfer/AP credits from high school that aren’t showing up?
  • Remember you have five class withdrawals & three repeats at RU.
  • Have you spoken with any of your professors outside of class & how did that go?
  • Have you visited the Learning Assistance Resource Center (LARC) in Walker Hall?
  • Do not hesitate to ask for help if you find yourself struggling in a class.
  • Have you spoken with a professor in your major about the professional field and career plans?
  • Have you joined the student club in your major?
  • Start working on a resume and/or portfolio.

SOPHOMORES

  • How are your classes going this semester?
  • Have you checked your overall GPA?
  • Have you looked at your web audit lately?
  • Are you still interested in your current major?
  • Have you used any withdrawals; if yes, are you planning to take summer classes to catch up?
  • Note: only credits will transfer to RU, not the grade, so to improve your GPA you must take the class at RU, especially if it’s a class you need to repeat.
  • It is important at this time to make sure you are taking the correct General Education and prerequisite classes for your major. 
  • Have you spoken with a professor in your major about the professional field and career plans?
  • Do not hesitate to ask for help or use the resources available to assist you with your academics.
  • Be sure to update your resume and/or portfolio. 
  • Have you done any job shadowing or researching of the career(s) your major leads to?
  • Think about joining professional organizations related to your major.

JUNIORS

  • How are your classes (especially major classes) going this semester?
  • Are you still interested in your current major?  What are your career goals?
  • Have you looked over your web audit information lately?
  • Be sure to check your GPA & course requirements according to your intended major.
  • Note: summer is an excellent time to take courses here or transfer courses in.
  • If you want to take classes at another institution and transfer them back to RU, only the credits will transfer, not the grades.  Also, double check with the Registrar’s Office and/or the Advising Center to be sure the class will transfer appropriately.
  • Have you spoken with a professor in your major about the professional field and career plans?
  • Be sure to update your resume and/or portfolio.
  • Have you thought about graduate school?

SENIORS

  • How are your final classes going?
  • Have you checked your web audit lately?  Have you checked to be sure you are meeting all requirements for graduation?  This includes Gen Ed courses, major courses, total credits, and GPAs.
  • Did you apply for graduation?
  • Have you had out of class meetings with any of your professors?
  • If an internship is required, when will you be completing it?
  • If applicable, have you applied to graduate school?
  • Have you visited the Career Center to help you prepare a resume and/or look at job opportunities?
  • Have you starting to prepare for your NCLEX/ PRAXIS, etc. exam?
  • Do you feel RU has prepared you for the career and/or job you plan on having in a few months?
  • Have you spoken with a professor in your major about the professional field and career plans?
  • Be sure to update your resume and/or portfolio.
  • Have you joined any professional organizations related to your major?
