University Services supports the Radford community with donations

The mission of University Services is to provide essential business services to the Radford University community by supporting areas like conferences, dining, laundry, parking, postal, vending, the bookstore and more. That support recently has extended beyond the borders of the campus and into the Radford community.

This month, University Services donated prepackaged snack food to the ROCK (Reaching Our Community’s Kids) Club, a church-based organization in the City of Radford that supports the family structure by providing quality, individualized care in a loving, supportive and flexible environment.

“Part of being a Highlander is embracing the spirit of giving,” said James Perkins, director of University Services. “During this difficult time, we know it’s important to support organizations in our community that are helping maintain a sense of normalcy and providing support for children and their parents.”

This is the second recent donation by University Services. Earlier in April, unprepared food was donated to New River Community Action’s Radford Food Bank.

“That food would have been served to students in the dining program,” Perkins said. “With the remote learning now taking place, we were able to share with the food bank to help those in need. I’m glad the Radford University community can support the broader community in these challenging times."

This act of service embodies the core value of community, for which the Radford family is known. Additionally, it is expression of the #HighlandersRise mentality that represents a commitment to maintain our responsiveness and resiliency, even during challenging times.

#HighlandersRise is an initiative to spotlight how Radford University students, faculty, staff, alumni and community members push through fear and frustration to pursue their hopes and dreams, even in trying times. Our resiliency sustains us, and our responsiveness empowers us. The entire Radford family, both near and far, is demonstrating a tremendous amount of strength during the unprecedented times we are facing locally, regionally and globally.
