Davis College of Business and Economics awards first SAS Business Analytics certificate

Radford University’s Davis College of Business and Economics has awarded its first graduate certificate in business analytics.

Zdenek Jakoubek is the first student to complete the program. Jakoubek, who earned his Bachelor of Science in computer science and his MBA from Radford University, recently joined Virginia Tech as a Senior Business Intelligence Analyst for a newly formed analytics division in Virginia Tech’s Capital Management group.

"The Radford University MBA Analytics Certificate program played an invaluable role in exposing me to the world of Data Science,” Jakoubek said.  “The topics, techniques and software covered and used in the program were all relevant to what employers are seeking. In fact, I recently accepted my new position directly because of my Radford University experience. The Analytics Certificate program is an exceptional value."

The business analytics certificate program provides students with tools to differentiate themselves in the job market and bridge the gap between discipline-specific knowledge and the ability to analyze relevant data for informed decision making.

Courses are taught by Radford University Analytics faculty. Most courses are offered in a hybrid format allowing students to take classes online or on campus.

The graduate certificate program is offered jointly with SAS Analytics, a leader in data analytics software and the largest independent vendor in the business intelligence market.

Students enrolled in Davis College’s MBA program can couple the joint certificate with SAS as part of the analytics concentration. The certificate also complements many degree programs offered at Radford University.

Radford MBA students need to inform their program director that they are pursuing the certificate. Other candidates can go through a streamlined application process online at https://www.applyweb.com/radg/index.ftl.

Coursework for the Graduate Certificate in Business Analytics requires three courses:

  • Business Analytics Foundations – MKTG 625
  • Predictive Analytics and Data Mining – MKTG 630
  • Financial Analytics: Data Analysis and Portfolio Construction – FINC 651

Plus one elective class - the candidate’s choice between:

  • Quantitative Methods – MGNT 622
  • Business Forecasting – ECON 694
