Professor to discuss radio's golden age

Revolutions in Communication cover

Before television and the Internet, families would gather together around the radio and listen to their favorite shows.

Media historian and Radford University Professor Bill Kovarik will discuss this golden age of radio and his book, "Revolutions in Communication: Media History from Gutenberg to the Digital Age," on the radio program "With Good Reason" Saturday through Jan. 25.

Listeners in the New River Valley can hear the RU School of Communication professor on "With Good Reason" on Tuesday at 6 p.m. on Public Radio WVRU 89.9.

Kovarik's book is an in-depth social and technological history that provides insight into and examinations of the history of radio and its effects on American politics and popular culture.

"With Good Reason" is broadcast weekly on 13 public radio stations, reaching a diverse audience in Virginia, Washington, D.C., and portions of Maryland, West Virginia, North Carolina, Georgia and Alaska. Programs also are available through podcasts at withgoodreasonradio.org.

"With Good Reason" is produced by the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities for the Virginia Higher Education Broadcasting Consortium.
