Honors Housing

Floyd Hall and Pocahontas Hall are designated for honors housing. These residences are centrally-located on Governors Quad and Moffett Quad, which are short walks to the Bonnie Student Center, Dalton Dining, and the Recreation & Wellness Center. Both halls offer updated rooms, air conditioning, lounges, study spaces, washers/dryers, and a small kitchen. Whereas Floyd Hall is suite style, Pocahontas Hall includes private bathrooms. Many honors courses are located in basement classroom of Floyd Hall. Therefore many honors students are simply a staircase away from their courses. Finally, the main office for the Honors College is on the first floor for Floyd.

Honors students who join out of high school are required to live in Floyd Hall freshman year. A major component of the honors experience is living, learning, and socializing with other honors students. As such all incoming honors students are required to live in Floyd Hall freshman year (many return for subsequent years as well). Varsity athletes and commuters are exempt from this requirement. Students may request a non-honors roommate on a space-availble basis. Make sure to request each other on the Residence Life housing application. Upperclassmen in the Honors College have access to either Floyd Hall or Pocahontas Hall.
