Festival of South African Dance
The Festival of South African Dance presents an evening of two distinct South African dance traditions born from the perseverance of the human spirit. Two deeply rhythmic ensembles, Real Actions Pantsula and Stimela “The Gumboot” Musical uplift, unite and tell a story following their historical tradition of spreading awareness of socioeconomic and political challenges. These communicative dances play an important role in restoring, revitalizing and preserving South African Culture.

National Players’ Production of “Othello”
Othello is a celebrated general returning home from the wars, but his dark skin and foreign origin inspire hatred from several people, especially the man he trusts most: Iago. As Iago twists the love Othello has for his wife Desdemona, everyone becomes pawns in Iago’s devious plots. With contemporary clarity this classic tale examines identity, bigotry, and deceit, combining Shakespeare’s language with modern clothing to transform the drama into a powerful story for America today. In the National Players’ tradition of producing invigorating productions for modern audiences, “Othello” stimulates youthful imagination and critical thinking. This company is a hallmark outreach program of the Helen Hayes award-winning Olney Theatre Center in suburban Washington, DC.

Berlin Philharmonic Piano Quartet
The Berlin Philharmonic Piano Quartet is one of the few existing piano and string ensembles and has existed as a Berlin Philharmonic chamber music ensemble since 1985. It unites three permanent members of the Berliner Philharmoniker, Konzertmeister Andreas Buschatz, violist Matthew Hunter and cellist Knut Weber, with renowned concert pianist Markus Groh. Their performances represent the standard repertoire of classical, romantic and modern works, but include their finds of undiscovered masterpieces of the literature that encompasses over 400 works.

Mountain Stage
Join Radford University for a special recording of Mountain Stage with Larry Groce, home to live music on public radio for over 30 years. Distributed by NPR, more than 150 stations across America and around the world play the two-hour episode of Mountain Stage every week via NPR Music and mountainstage.org. Recorded in front of a live audience, Mountain Stage features performances from seasoned legends and emerging stars in genres ranging from folk, blues and country; to indie rock, synth pop, world music and alternative.
