A Radford University annual tradition, The Super Duper Juried Student Art Show, will open on Wednesday, February 1 in the Art Museum on Tyler (214 Tyler Street) and run through Saturday, February 18.

The show, which dates back to the 1980s, is open to all Radford University students, not just Art majors. It is an important event that offers many students their first opportunity to both display their work publically and have it judged competitively.

This year, it drew 132 entries from 53 students with 89 works (67%) accepted by this season's juror, artist and educator, Nikki Pynn.

The 2023 juried show has more than $2400 in prizes. The top accolade, the Purchase Award, provides the winning artist with $750 and the honor of having their work entered into the Art Museum collection.

Other awards include the Andrew W. Ross Photography Award, Awards of Excellence and Awards of Distinction for both graduate and undergraduate students as well as merit awards. Cash prizes range from $75-$300.

The reception begins at 5 p.m. and is open to everyone. Resfreshments are included. The show winners will be announced and prizes awarded at 5:30 pm.

Here is a sneak peek at some of what you will see with photos caught during the installation.
