President Hemphill speaks with faculty and staff in the College of Visual and Performing Arts about the proposed Center for Adaptive Innovation and Creativity

On Wednesday May 2, 2018, President Hemphill and members of his leadership team met with faculty and staff of the College of Visual and Performing Arts to provide an update on the proposed Center for Adaptive Innovation and Creativity. The meeting was a candid discussion about both the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead as the university moves forward with plans to secure funding for a new building that would house the CVPA and provide unique workspaces that foster collaboration between health, sciences and the arts.

According to President Hemphill, authorization to commence detailed planning for the building is included in the proposed Commonwealth of Virginia budget, but that budget has not yet been passed and will not likely be voted on until early summer. In the meantime, college leadership is planning to solicit input from faculty and staff to ensure that the new building will be a state-of-the-art educational facility, as well as a focal point for innovation and collaboration on the Radford University campus.

During the session President Hemphill and members of his leadership team took a variety of questions from audience members. The exchanges touched upon issues such as the planning process, ensuring that the design process will address the requirements of the variety of disciplines that the building would accommodate, timelines for project completion, and how the transition would be handled during demolition and construction phases of the project. The leadership team assured members of college that they would be following through with an active engagement plan to solicit feedback for the design phase of the center.
