ADA Housing Accommodations

ADA housing accommodations are used by individuals who would be unable or have substantial difficulty attending the university without ADA housing accommodations.

Please remember, as a four-year residential college, learning to live in a community and share space with others is an integral part of student’s educational experience.

Students with documented disabilities are able to apply for ADA housing accommodations at Radford University and Radford University Carilion. (CAS does not exempt students from housing contracts.)

Students can contact the CAS office to request an ADA Housing Application Packet. The ADA Housing Application Packet must be completed in its entirety and may be submitted by mail, email casaccess@radford.edu , or fax to the Center for Accessibility Services (CAS) offices before the request is reviewed.

*Please be sure all Housing and Residential Life applications and procedures have been complete. Contact the Office of Housing and Residential Life if you have questions. *

Directions for Requesting ADA Housing Accommodations

Students can contact the CAS office to request an ADA Housing Application Packet. The ADA Housing Application Packet must be completed in its entirety and may be submitted by mail, email casaccess@radford.edu , or fax (540-831-6525) to the Center for Accessibility Services (CAS) office before the request is reviewed.

Directions:

  1. The Office of Housing and Residential Life has a Residential Boarding Policy and Student Agreement. This is separate from the Center for Accessibility Services ADA Housing Application Packet.
  2. The student will follow the process to register with the CAS office which includes completing the Applications for CAS Services form and meeting with a CAS Access Specialist. Do not resubmit this form if you have received prior accommodations from CAS offices.
  3. While meeting with the CAS Access Specialist the Access Specialist will discuss the process for requesting an ADA housing accommodation, and can provide the ADA Housing Application Packet to the student at that time.
  4. The current treating healthcare professional completes the Request for ADA Housing Accommodations Provider form.
  5. The student completes the ADA Housing Accommodation Student Questionnaire
  6. Submit all information to casaccess@radford.edu.

  • Completed ADA Housing Packets will be submitted to the CAS Medical Housing Review Committee. If additional follow-up is required, a CAS Access Specialist will contact the student or the provider. The committee will carefully review the information provided and will determine a decision.
  • CAS will email the student (RU email) with the CAS Medical Housing Review Committee's decision.
  • If a student is approved for a housing accommodation, CAS will send the Committee's decision to the student and the Office of Housing and Residential Life, who will provide the student with a room assignment that meets the accommodation(s).

CAS works to provide accommodations for Radford University-owned housing. CAS does not exempt students from housing contracts.

  • Completion of the Housing Accommodation Request Packet does not guarantee approval for any housing accommodations through CAS.
  • Radford University does not guarantee a low-distraction living environment, a specific residence hall, or roommate assignment.
  • CAS approves reasonable accommodations. The Office of Housing and Residential Life determines the housing assignment/location.
