T-shirt Design Contest

Our annual Highlander Giving Day is coming up in just a few months (December 2, 2025) and to help us spread the message that #HighlandersGiveBack, we want YOU to design the #HighlandersGiveBack T-shirt!

What is Highlander Giving Day?

Highlander Giving Day, Radford University’s official giving day, is an annual celebration of our community’s generosity and impact on students, faculty and staff. During last year's Highlander Giving Day, more than 300 Highlanders from across the nation gave $52,519 to support important scholarships and programs that make our university exceptional.

What is the #HighlandersGiveBack T-shirt contest? 

This year, we are inviting students to submit designs for the official #HighlandersGiveBack T-shirt by 11:59 p.m. on Monday, September 8.  A judging panel will confirm that all designs meet the guidelines and choose the winner.

What am I designing? 

Students will design a unique T-shirt that responds to this creative prompt: What does the phrase “Highlanders give back” mean to you?

Why should I submit a design?

This is an opportunity to get involved with the mission of Radford University to demonstrate care for its students and influence the greater Highlander community to do the same! Highlander Giving Day and the #HighlandersGiveBack T-shirt are a key part of how we raise awareness and inspire donors to support student scholarships and programs.

Your unique and original design will be printed on hundreds of #HighlandersGiveBack T-shirts, to be worn by generous Highlanders wherever they may be! Plus, you’ll qualify to compete for the cash prize of $250!

What are the requirements?

• You must be a current Radford University student.
• You are invited to submit one (1) design that best showcases your creativity and school pride.
• All designs must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. on Monday, September 8.
• #HighlandersGiveBack must be prominent in the design.
• No premade Radford University logos are permitted. The official Radford University logo will be printed on the sleeve of the shirt, so you do not need to include this in your design.
• The shirt itself will be dark blue, and there will be one ink color: white.
• Your design will be printed on the front of the shirt. It will be a maximum of 10 inches wide and 10 inches high.
• Your submission must be in JPG or PNG format and less than 50 MB.  If your design wins, you will need to submit the final design as Vector file (EPS or AI) with all text outlined no later than 5 p.m. on Friday, September 12.
• The use of artificial intelligence is discouraged.
• Illustrations of the Highlander mascot are permitted, but it must closely match the mascot itself or illustrations of the mascot used by Strategic Communications.
• Parody or mimicked designs are not permitted.
• Radford University trademarks may not be used in any manner that suggests or implies Radford University’s endorsement of products, services, political parties or views, or religious organizations or beliefs.
• Please note that the Radford University brand mark (logo) will be located on the sleeve of the shirt and it may not be used in connection with illegal drugs, tobacco, gambling, inherently dangerous products such as firearms and explosives, or sexually suggestive products, imagery or language. To be considered, please ensure your design is free from all of the above.
• Radford University will not approve art that taints or undermines its goodwill.
• Lastly, be creative and HAVE FUN!
