Transfer Scholarships and Financial Aid

Radford is committed to providing a high-quality education at an affordable price. Below, we've outlined several financial aid options for transfer students.

The Admissions staff automatically reviews transfer applicants who apply by our March 1 priority deadline for merit-based scholarships.  

Merit-based scholarships are awarded at the time of initial application for admission and may be adjusted based on the receipt of other institutional awards and/or changes to a student’s tuition and fee classification.

Awards are renewable up to two years as long as renewal criteria is met. Below is an overview of 2026-27 merit-based scholarship awards, amounts  and required cumulative transfer GPA.

In-State Student Merit Scholarships

• Phi Theta Kappa  ($3,000) - PTK Membership*
• Transfer Wayfinder Scholarship ($2,000) - 3.25 to 4.0 GPA
• Transfer Compass Scholarship ($1,000) - 2.5 to 3.24 GPA

Out-of-State Student Merit Scholarships

• Transfer Excellence Scholarship ($10,000) - 4.0 GPA
• Transfer Wayfinder Scholarship ($8,000) - 3.25 to 3.99 GPA
• Transfer Compass Scholarship ($6,000) - 2.5 to 3.24 GPA

*To be considered for the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Scholarship, students must submit a copy of their PTK membership card or PTK certificate with their application or by email to admissions@radford.edu. If awarded, the Phi Theta Kappa scholarship replaces any other merit-based scholarship award. 

Donor-Funded Scholarships

Admitted transfer students may choose to apply for donor-funded Foundation Scholarships.  The priority date for apply for donor-funded scholarships is Feb. 5.

We strongly encourage all students to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at studentaid.gov.

The FAFSA is how we determine federal and state grants, loans and work study programs for which you may be eligible. Our financial aid team is available to assist you and your family with questions about the FAFSA .

Transfer students enrolling at Radford University are eligible to apply  for the Virginia Transfer Grant (VTG) Program. This is is a need-based grant program for transfer students who have earned an Associate degree at a Virginia community college with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. 

• Students must complete the Virginia Transfer Grant application and submit their final official transcripts with degree conferral date for consideration.
• Students must submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and cannot exceed a maximum Student Aid Index (SAI) of 15,000.
• Students must have enrolled as a first-time freshman in the two-year program, completed the associate degree program, and enrolled full-time in a Virginia four-year college or university the following Fall or Spring semester.
• Continuing students must maintain full-time enrollment, minimum SAI requirements and a cumulative 3.00 GPA or higher to renew the grant.
